DĪNAVARĪ, ABŪ MOḤAMMAD ʿABD-ALLĀH

DĪNAVARĪ, ABŪ MOḤAMMAD ʿABD-ALLĀH b. Mobārak (d. first half of the 10th century), author of a tafsīr (koranic exegesis) entitled al-Wāżeḥfī tafsīr al-Qorʾān,which is preserved in several manuscripts (Brockelmann, GAL I, p. 204, S. I, p. 334; Sezgin, GAS I, p. 42, in both of which the author is incorrectly identified and his name garbled). The material is presented in a sober fashion, with short explanations and almost without quotation of earlier works; it stands fully in the eastern Persian tradition of Ebn ʿAbbās and Kalbī and was transmitted in Nīšāpūr, as well as in Samarqand. Ṯaʿlabī used it, as did members of the Karrāmīya, an ascetic movement with heterodox (especially anthromorphic) tendenfies which had spread in eastern Persia.
