Iraj Afshar
(1925-2011) was an Iranian bibliographer, librarian, editor, manuscript scholar, and one of the foremost figures in twentieth-century Iranian Studies. A graduate of the University of Tehran, he held leadership positions at the National Library of Iran and the University of Tehran Central Library. Afshar founded or edited numerous influential scholarly journals, including Farhang-e Irānzamin, Rāhnamā-ye Ketāb, and Āyandeh, and was a pioneering advocate of library science and bibliography in Iran. His publications, editions of Persian manuscripts, bibliographic works, and studies of Iranian history and culture profoundly shaped the development of modern Iranian Studies.
