Houman Sarshar

Iranian-born independent scholar, editor, and cultural historian; a specialist in Iranian Jewish history, Judeo-Persian studies, and modern Persian literature. He received his Ph.D. in comparative literature from Columbia University and has edited and co-edited seven volumes on the history of Jews in Iran, including Esther’s Children: A Portrait of Iranian Jews and The Jewish Communities of Iran: Entries on the Judeo-Persian Communities of Iran. His work includes entries on Nima Yushij and Sohrab Sepehri. He is the founder of the Kimia Foundation, a cultural organization dedicated to promoting Iranian art, culture, and history, which holds an extensive archive of Qajar court photography.
