PEYK-E SAʿĀDAT-E NESWĀN, a magazine published every alternate month in Rašt from Ābān 1306 until Dey 1309 Š. (October 1927-December 1930), with a one-year interruption. Altogether eight issues were published. The owner and the chief editor was Rowšanak Nawʿdust (b. Rašt, 1898; d. Rašt, 1957), who had also founded a girls’ school in Rašt and an association called Jamʿiyat-e saʿādat-e neswān that used the magazine as its organ. The magazine covered a variety of topics related to women and advocated civil rights for them. Nawʿdust joined the pro-Soviet Communist party ḤOezb-e Tuda (see COMMUNISM) long after the magazine had ceased publication, but the magazine contents do not reflect any tendency towards Marxist-Leninist ideology.
Peyk-e saʿādat-e neswān was printed at Etteḥād, Jāvid, and Ferdows printing houses in 32 to 36 single-column pages of about 15 x 21 cm and carried no illustrations. The subscription rate for Rašt was 12 krans, with a discount of 10 percent for schoolgirls. A complete set of the magazine is available at the Central Library of the University of Tehran, and some scattered issues are preserved at Rašt Public Library (Ketāb-ḵ-āna-ye melli-e Rašt),University of Isfahan’s Central Library, and Tabriz Public Library (Ketāb-ḵ-āna-ye melli-e Tabriz).
