Encyclopaedia Iranica Foundation
The Encyclopaedia Iranica project has been funded since the 1970s by grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities. In general, these grants require raising matching funds. In 1990 the Encyclopædia Iranica Foundation was established as an independent external source of support to guarantee the project's regular, long-term funding. The not-for-profit 501(c)(3) public foundation is registered in New York State (tax identification number: 13-3636524). In the course of the past two decades, the Encyclopædia Iranica Foundation and its Board of Trustees have been instrumental in augmenting the Endowment Fund, which has been established to ensure the project's long-term viability in the 21st century.
