Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Islamic Arts and Material Culture - Bard Graduate Center

The Bard Graduate Center in New York City invites applications for a post-doctoral position in Islamic arts and material culture. The BGC is a graduate research institute committed to the study of the cultural history of the material world, drawing on methodologies and approaches from art and design history, economic and cultural history, history of technology, philosophy, anthropology, and archaeology.

Our ideal candidate is a scholar with a broad background in Islamic art, archaeology, and cultural history who is able to teach one course per semester, one on objects and their contexts, and the other on a subject related to his/her research interests. The post-doctoral fellow will also organize and chair a symposium in his/her second year of the fellowship. The recipient must have completed all requirements for a Ph.D. by September 2014. All applications must be received by March 1, 2014.

The stipend for this two-year position is $40,000 per year, with housing provided in the BGC residence hall. There is also a travel and research stipend of $1,500 for each of the two years the fellow is in residence. The application should include a cover letter, indicating areas of special interest, curriculum vitae, sample publication (SASE), and three letters of recommendation.
